Shakespeare Navigators Home |
Before you start, here are a few things to consider:
- The Shakespeare Navigators site contains over 2,000 pages, and a search on a common word such as "love" will produce over 500 results.
- Each play has a dedicated search engine which searches only the text and notes of that particular play.
- If you are searching for a particular phrase, use quotation marks and as many words as you can accurately remember. For instance, a search on "to be" without the quotation marks will produce about 1,910 results, and Hamlet's famous speech won't be on the first page of results. Searching on "to be" with the quotation marks will produce fewer (1,240) and better results, but you still won't see Hamlet's speech on the first page. However, searching on either "to be, or" or "to be or" will produce what you want: just 21 results, all concerning Hamlet's speech.
- If you want to search all of Shakespeare's works, the place to go is Open Source Shakespeare.
