The Taming of the Shrew,
Act 1, Scene 1, line 161.
This Latin phrase, which may be translated as "Ransom yourself from captivity as cheaply as you can," appears in the widely used Latin grammar of William Lily (c. 1468 - 1522), and is a quotation from a Latin comedy, Eunuchus (The Eunuch) by Terence (c. 195/185 - c. 159? BC). In Eunuchus, "Redime te captum quam queas minimo" is a cynical piece of advice given by a crafty servant, Parmeno, to his master Phaedria, who is suffering love-sickness over a prostitute who is playing hard to get.
