1. forward: early, a common epithet for the violet.   chide: scold.

2. whence: from where.   sweet that smells: i.e., scent.

5. grossly: obviously.

6. for thy hand: i.e., for stealing the hue of your hand.

7. buds of marjoram: buds of marjoram are striated with whitish/silver angel hair strands of waxy resin.

11. annex'd: appropriated; added.

12. in pride of all his growth: i.e., proud of the proof of his prime.

13. eat: was eating.
