Perhaps an allusion to Willem Barentsz, anglicized as William Barents, a Dutchman who led an expedition to the Arctic from 1596 to 1597 and died there in 1597. The Dutchman with a beard, had written an account of his journey which may have been published shortly before Twelfth Night was first performed.
