Welcome to my web site, now under development for more than twenty years.
-- Philip Weller, November 13, 1941 - February 1, 2021
Dr. Weller, an Eastern Washington University professor of English and Shakespearean scholar for more than 50 years.
Note to King Lear, 2.2.32: "I'll make a sop o' the moonshine of you"
A sop is bread or toast used to sop up a liquid. In Shakespeare's time, people liked to put sops in their wine.
Now (2020 CE) in the USA, we eat sops when we eat French dip sandwiches or milk toast.
