Note to Romeo and Juliet, 1.1.15: "weaker vessels"

Return
to
Romeo and Juliet,
Act 1, Scene 1, line 15.
Sampson boasts that he will take advantage of women's weakness, while Peter in the biblical quote weaker vessel urges husbands to protect their wives, because they are weaker.

Peter, "Likewise ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered" (I Peter 3:7).
