Note to Romeo and Juliet, 2.4.93: "bauble in a hole "

Return
to
Romeo and Juliet,
Act 2, Scene 4, line 93.
bauble: stick carried by a court jester or "natural." The idea of a fool looking to hide his bauble in a hole contains a strong sexual innuendo, as do the words "tale" (lines 95 & 97), "depth" (line 99), and "occupy" (line 100).
